Blue Beetle Star Xolo Maridueña Calls Out Warner Bros

Xolo Maridueña, the star of the new DC movie Blue Beetle, has called out Warner Bros. for putting pressure on the film to be a box office success. In an interview with Variety, Maridueña said that he felt the pressure from the studio, but that he was not going to let it affect his performance.

“I know that there’s a lot of pressure on this movie to do well,” Maridueña said. “But I’m not going to let that get to me. I’m just going to focus on doing my job and making the best movie I can.”

Maridueña’s comments come after a string of recent DC movies that have underperformed at the box office, including Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Warner Bros. is reportedly under pressure from its parent company, Discovery, to make its DC movies more successful.

It is unclear how Warner Bros. will respond to Maridueña’s comments. However, it is clear that the studio is facing a challenge in getting its DC movies back on track.

In addition to calling out Warner Bros., Maridueña also spoke about the importance of representation in superhero movies. He said that he was proud to be part of a film that features a Latino superhero.

“It’s important for kids to see themselves represented on screen,” Maridueña said. “I hope that this movie inspires other kids to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams.”

Blue Beetle is scheduled to be released in theaters on August 18, 2023.
