Bravely Default
Bravely Default is a role-playing game series developed by Square Enix and Silicon Studio. The first game in the series, Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012. It was followed by an expanded edition, Bravely Default: For the Sequel, in 2013. A sequel, Bravely Second: End Layer, was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. The most recent game in the series, Bravely Default II, was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
The Bravely Default games are known for their traditional turn-based combat system with a twist. In addition to the standard actions of attacking, defending, and using items, players can also choose to “Brave” or “Default”. Braving allows players to take multiple actions in a single turn, but it also reduces the number of actions they can take in future turns. Defaulting, on the other hand, allows players to store up BP for future turns. This risk-reward system adds a layer of strategy to combat and makes it more challenging.
The Bravely Default games also feature a strong focus on story and characters. The first game tells the story of four heroes who set out on a journey to save the world from four elemental crystals. The sequel follows a new cast of characters as they investigate a series of mysterious murders. Bravely Default II tells the story of a young sailor named Seth who sets out on a journey to find the four crystals of Light.
The Bravely Default games have been praised for their innovative combat system, strong story and characters, and beautiful graphics. They have been commercial successes, with over 5 million copies sold worldwide.
If you’re a fan of classic turn-based RPGs, then you should definitely check out the Bravely Default games. They’re a lot of fun to play and they have a lot to offer.
