Galaxian
Galaxian is a 1979 fixed shooter arcade game developed and published by Namco. It is the sequel to Galaxian (1979), Namco’s first major video game hit in arcades.
In Galaxian, players control a spaceship that must defend Earth from waves of alien invaders. The invaders move in a variety of patterns, and players must shoot them before they reach the bottom of the screen. If the invaders reach the bottom of the screen, the player loses a life.
Galaxian introduced a number of new features that were not present in Galaxian, including:
- The ability to capture enemy ships and use them to fight against the other aliens.
- The ability to earn power-ups that give the player’s ship special abilities, such as increased firepower or shields.
- A scoring system that rewards players for shooting down specific types of enemies or completing certain objectives.
Galaxian was a commercial success and was one of the most popular arcade games of its time. It is considered to be one of the most influential video games of all time, and it helped to popularize the fixed shooter genre.
The game was followed by several sequels and spin-offs, including Galaga 88, Galaga 90, and Galaga Deluxe. The game has also been ported to a number of home consoles and personal computers.
