Jets‘n’Guns
Jets’n’Guns is a 2004 2D horizontally scrolling shooter developed by Czech studio Rake in Grass. The player starts out as a freelancer, contracted to drive out a gang of criminals from a sector of space. Soon, the player is contacted by their old commanding officer from a previous war, Col. Troubleman, who is based aboard the United Space Ship Impotence. He explains that Xoxx, the evil dictator, has appeared again and has kidnapped a scientist, Professor Von Hamburger. The professor was developing a gigantic quantum cannon, which he intended to use for peaceful purposes. Xoxx, however, wants the cannon because it could, theoretically, destroy the entire universe with a single shot.
The player must travel through 43 levels of space, fighting against Xoxx’s forces and eventually confronting the dictator himself. Along the way, the player can collect power-ups to improve their ship’s weapons and abilities. The game is known for its fast-paced action and challenging difficulty.
Jets’n’Guns was a critical and commercial success, selling over 1 million copies. It was praised for its addictive gameplay, colorful graphics, and catchy soundtrack. The game was also nominated for several awards, including the Independent Games Festival’s Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
A sequel, Jets’n’Guns 2, was released in 2020. The game features new levels, enemies, weapons, and power-ups. It also includes a local co-op multiplayer mode.
