Sony is reportedly working on a new PlayStation Plus subscription service that will offer a wider variety of games and features.
Sony has announced that it will be merging its PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscription services into a new three-tiered service called PlayStation Plus. The new service will launch in June 2023 in select markets and will be available worldwide by the end of the first half of 2023.
The three tiers of the new PlayStation Plus service are:
- Essential: This tier is the same as the current PlayStation Plus service and will offer the same benefits, including:
- Online multiplayer access
- Monthly free games
- Exclusive discounts
- Cloud storage for saved games
- The price of this tier will remain the same as the current PlayStation Plus price.
- Extra: This tier will offer all the benefits of the Essential tier, plus:
- Access to a library of up to 400 PS4 and PS5 games to download and play
- The price of this tier will be $14.99 per month / $39.99 per quarter / $99.99 per year.
- Premium: This tier will offer all the benefits of the Extra tier, plus:
- Access to a library of up to 340 classic games from the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation 3 (via cloud streaming)
- Time-limited game trials
- The price of this tier will be $17.99 per month / $49.99 per quarter / $119.99 per year.
Sony has said that the new PlayStation Plus service will be a “one-stop shop” for gamers, offering a wide variety of games and features to choose from. It will be interesting to see how the new service is received by gamers and whether it can compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass.
Here are some additional details about the new PlayStation Plus service:
- The game library for the Extra and Premium tiers will be updated monthly with new games.
- The classic games in the Premium tier will be available to stream or download.
- The time-limited game trials in the Premium tier will allow players to try out new games for two hours before deciding to buy them.
- Existing PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscribers will be migrated to the new PlayStation Plus service at no additional cost.
